The California Association of Japanese Language Teachers (CAJLT) recently held their first-ever Teacher of the Year Awards. Honoring outstanding dedication to fostering Japanese language learning, the ceremony featured a speech by Consul Hagiwara, Director of the Consulate’s Japan Information and Culture Center. This year’s esteemed recipients are Mio Nishimura, a Japanese language teacher at Alisal High School, and Junko Ito, a Continuing Lecturer of Japanese at UC Davis. Both educators are recognized for their exceptional teaching skills, commitment to continuous learning, and leadership within the field.The awards celebrate excellence in two categories: K-12 and College-level instruction.
